My husband is trying to bulk (3200 cals) and I'm trying to cut (1600 cals). We're supposed to eat dinner together but making two completely different meals is exhausting. How do other couples handle this?

Cook the same base meal, adjust portions! Make a big batch of protein + veggies + carbs. He gets a bigger plate. That's literally all you need to do.

My gf and I do this. Same dinner every night. I just add extra rice, a side of bread, or extra sauce. She has a smaller portion with more veggies. Works perfectly.

Extra carb sources on the side are the easiest lever. Same protein and veggies for both, then he adds rice/bread/potatoes and you don't. Simple.

We do the same protein and veggies, but my husband adds a calorie-dense side (bread with butter, extra rice, PB on toast after). Easy way to add 500-800 calories without cooking separately.

Sheet pan dinners are great for this. Everyone gets the same proteins and veggies. Those who need more just eat more or add a side. One pan, minimal cleanup.

Ok this is so obvious now that you all said it lol. Same meal, different portions + sides. I was overcomplicating this. Thanks!

Also don't forget that eating together is about more than nutrition. The social/relationship aspect of sharing a meal matters too. Keeping the base meal the same preserves that connection.

It gets really tricky when one person is keto and the other isn't. That's a whole different challenge. Portion adjustments are way easier to manage than completely different diets.
