Why am I always hungry? Is something wrong with me?
I eat 3 meals a day and I'm STILL hungry all the time. By 10am I'm starving. After lunch I'm hungry again by 2pm. After dinner I want snacks. Is my metabolism broken or am I doing something wrong?
You're probably not eating enough protein and fiber. These are the two most satiating nutrients. Common pattern:
- Breakfast: cereal or toast (all carbs, no protein) → hungry by 10am
- Lunch: sandwich with tiny bit of meat → hungry by 2pm
- Dinner: pasta with sauce → hungry after
Fix: add 30g+ protein and fiber-rich foods to every meal. You'll feel dramatically fuller.
What does your typical day of eating look like? I bet I can pinpoint the issue. 9 times out of 10 it's not enough protein, especially at breakfast.
@ProteinQueen Typical day: cereal for breakfast, turkey sandwich for lunch, pasta for dinner. Snack on chips or crackers.
@hungryAllTheTime Called it! Your breakfast has maybe 5g protein (cereal). Your lunch has maybe 15g (thin deli meat). That's 20g by 2pm. You need AT LEAST 60g by then. Try eggs + toast for breakfast (24g) and double the turkey at lunch.
Also: crackers and chips are the WORST for satiety. They're designed to make you eat more. Swap snacks for foods with protein and fiber: apple + peanut butter, Greek yogurt, vegetables + hummus.
Nothing is wrong with you. Hunger is a signal that your body's needs aren't being met — usually protein, fiber, or volume. Eating the same calories with better food choices can dramatically change your hunger levels.
Also check if you're drinking enough water. Thirst often masquerades as hunger. Try drinking a glass of water when you feel hungry and wait 15 minutes.
Update: added eggs to breakfast and doubled the meat in my lunch sandwich. DAY ONE and I'm significantly less hungry. The protein thing is real. Why didn't I know this before? Thanks everyone!
