Low carb for Type 2 diabetes - my results

Diagnosed Type 2 diabetic 2 years ago. A1C was 8.2. Doctor wanted to put me on metformin. Instead I asked if I could try diet first. Went low carb (not strict keto, about 75-100g carbs/day) under medical supervision.

Results after 18 months:

  • A1C: 8.2 → 5.4 (normal range!)
  • Weight: 245 → 198 (47 lbs lost)
  • Fasting glucose: 185 → 95
  • No medication needed

My doctor is thrilled and now recommends low carb to other patients. This literally changed my life.

This is a textbook example of dietary intervention for T2D. Low carb diets have strong evidence for blood sugar management. Your results are impressive but not unusual in the literature — many T2D patients see similar improvements.

Important note: this was done under medical supervision. Don't adjust diabetes medications or management without consulting your doctor.

Amazing results! This is exactly the kind of success story that makes this forum worthwhile. Pinning this for visibility.

Love seeing this. And important that you noted 75-100g carbs, not strict keto. You don't need to go to extremes to get metabolic benefits. Even moderate carb reduction can be transformative.

As someone who uses a CGM, the effect of reducing carbs on blood sugar stability is dramatic and immediate. It's one of the most direct cause-and-effect relationships in nutrition.

My dad has T2D and I've been trying to get him to reduce carbs. Sharing this with him. Sometimes hearing it from a fellow patient is more persuasive than from a daughter lol.

This is why I believe in food as medicine. Not instead of medical care, but alongside it. What you eat can be as powerful as medication for certain conditions.

Thanks everyone. I want to emphasize: I did this WITH my doctor's knowledge and regular monitoring. If you have diabetes, please don't try this alone. Get blood work every 3 months to make sure things are moving in the right direction.

Incredible. This is the kind of real-world result that matters more than any study. Congratulations on taking control of your health.
