Lazy keto - does it work?

"Lazy keto" = only counting carbs, not calories or other macros. I've been strict keto (tracking everything) for a year and I'm burned out on tracking. Can I switch to lazy keto and maintain my weight loss?

Lazy keto works well for MAINTENANCE. The appetite-suppressing effect of ketosis naturally regulates intake for most people. For active weight LOSS, you might need more structure.

I've been lazy keto for my maintenance phase and it's been great. Just keep carbs under 20g and eat until satisfied.

It works until it doesn't. You can overeat on keto-friendly foods (cheese, nuts, and fat bombs are calorie-dense). If you're maintaining fine without tracking, great. If the scale starts creeping up, you'll need to track again.

I do lazy keto and have maintained for 8 months. The key is I eat mostly whole foods — meat, vegetables, eggs. If I were eating a lot of keto "treats" and processed stuff, I'd probably need to track.

Lazy keto + IF is my maintenance stack. Skip breakfast, eat keto the rest of the day, don't track. Weight has been stable for over a year. The two together make it really hard to overeat.

The data nerd in me can't do lazy anything lol. But I understand the tracking fatigue. Maybe try lazy keto on weekdays and track on weekends (or vice versa) as a compromise?

Good to hear maintenance lazy keto works for people. I'll try it for a month. If the scale moves more than 3 lbs I'll go back to tracking. Seems like a fair test.

Honestly this is the closest keto gets to "intuitive eating." If ketosis naturally regulates your appetite and you're eating whole foods, you don't really NEED to track. Your body will tell you what it needs.

Works for maintenance but I gained weight on lazy keto because I was eating keto desserts and cheese boards that were 1000+ calories without realizing. If you can be honest about portions, it's fine. If not, track.
